Testing Session

January 12th - The WVRA will be holding an all classes testing session.  The testing session will start at 9am at the Kronenwetter Village Hall - Community Room.  Contact Jerry Graebel W9GLG for more information.

 

Badger State Winter Games

February 2nd - Contact Jerry Graebel, W9GLG for more information or to volunteer to help out.  The WVRA will be providing communications support at the Nordic Skiing event held on the 2nd.  The first race will start at 10am and the last race should be completed around 3pm.

 

Special Olympic Winter Games

February 9th-10th - In addition to our normal heath and welfare duties, we are also going to be providing real time-on site weather information.  Contact Mike Wild, KB9DED for more information or to volunteer to help out.

 

WVRA Annual Awards Banquet

March 15th - The annual banquet for the Ham of the Year and Excellence in Amateur Radio awards is tentatively set for March 15th at 2510 Restaurant in Wausau.  Social hour will begin at 5:30PM and followed by dinner at about 6:30 pm.   Meal will be of your choice from the menu with a vast selection of different meals.  Please RSVP to Kim Baumann KC9LFH or Karyn Gelhaus KA9RYN if you will be attending.

 

 

Talk to the Boy Scouts

March 15th - The Boy Scouts are working on their Radio Merit badge on Saturday March 15th and need your help.  They need people to talk to on the radio.  The Scouts will be on the radio from downtown Wausau at about 11am.  They will be using simplex frequencies of 147.47 PL 114.8 and 146.430 PL 151.4.

 

MS Walk

April 27th - The WVRA will again provide health and welfare communications.  We will also provide SAG duties for the walk.  If you would like to volunteer to help out, please contact Jack Klein N9LIA to sign up or for more information.  All volunteers should show up at the Marathon Park Youth building by 8:30am.

 

Field Day

June 28th-29th - The annual WVRA Field Day event is tentatively scheduled to be held at Sunnyvale Park in Wausau.  Events and times are yet to be determined.  Anyone interested in volunteering to help out or work the radios or if you have some ideas of things to do, contact Travis KC9JVC.

 

Wausau Balloon Rally and Glow

July 13th-15th - The WVRA will again be helping out with the Wausau Balloon Rally and Glow.  For information or to volunteer, contact Jerry W9GLG.  More details will follow as we get them.

 

24/9 Bike Race - 24 Hours at Nine-Mile

August? - It's time again to start thinking about helping out with communications at the 24/9 bike race at Nine-Mile Forest.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Jerry, W9GLG.  More details will be posted as they become available.

General License Class Workshop

March 17th-18th - Contact Jerry Graebel, W9GLG for more information or to register for the class.  It will be held at the American Legion in Wausau.  Testing session to follow the class on the 18th.

 

WVRA Awards Banquet

March 24th - The WVRA will be having our annual awards banquet.  This will be held at the American Legion in Wausau.  The menu will be steak and shrimp and the cost will be $23.00 per person.  Contact Jerry Graebel W9GLG no later than March 17th to RSVP.

 

Near Space Balloon Launch

April 19th (or something around that date, depending on weather) - The WVRA will be helping Tim Peterson KC9KGW with his Northcentral Technical College final project.  We will help with launch, tracking and recovery of the balloon.  If you would like to help out, contact Mark Rasmussen N9MEA.  You can also watch his balloon track.  We will be tracking it using APRS.  You can track it by going to the top of this webpage, use the APRS search engine and type in KC9KGW-1.  As you probably read on the main page, we had a problem with the launch, however, we will attempt another launch on Thursday, May 3rd.

 

Black River Amateur Radio Association Hamfest

April 28th - The WVRA will have a table at the hamfest and will be demonstrating APRS.  We will also be taking memberships if anyone wants to pay then.  We will also be having a drawing for an APRS radio for anyone that renews or joins the club at the hamfest.  If you would like to help out or would like more information, contact Mark Rasmussen N9MEA.

Great Annual Bicycle Adventure Along the Wisconsin River (GRABWAAWR)

June 23rd-30th - The WVRA has been asked to help out with communications for health and welfare and also SAG duties for this bike tour.  For more information please contact Mark Rasmussen, N9MEA or Scott Winter, KB9PVI.

 

Wausau Balloon Rally and Glow

July 6th-8th - The WVRA has been asked to help out at the Wausau Area Events Balloon Rally and Glow.  Our duties would be to provide spectator safety.  Contact Jerry Graebel, W9GLG for more information or to volunteer.  This was a fun event last year.

 

Bike Northwood's Tour

July 7th-14th - The WVRA has been asked to help out with this bike tour also.  We will provide communications for health and welfare and also SAG duties for this tour.  If you would like more information or to sign up for this bike tour, contact Mark Rasmussen, N9MEA.

 

Club Picnic

July 17th - The WVRA will be having a club picnic at Marathon Park at 5:30pm.  Listen to 147.135 to see what shelter we will be at.  As in years past, please bring a dish to pass, but supply your own drink and main course.  Grills will be available if you do not have one to bring with you.

 

24/9 Bike Race

July 28-29 -The WVRA has been asked to provide communications for this 24hr event at Nine Mile Recreation Area.  If you are interested and have questions or would like to volunteer, contact Jerry Graebel W9GLG.

 

Technician Level Class and Exam Session

October 20-21 - The WVRA will be holding a Technician Level Class.  The class will start both days at 9am and will be held at the American Legion in Wausau.  After the class on Sunday, there will be a testing session for all license classes.  The testing session will start about 3pm.  I you are interested in taking the class or have questions, please contact Jerry Graebel W9GLG.

 

WVRA Annual Halloween Watch

October 31st - The WVRA will be doing their annual Halloween watch in Wausau from 4pm to 7pm during the Trick or Treat times.  If you would like to help out or have questions, please contact Jerry Graebel W9GLG.

 

WVRA Club Auction

The WVRA will be holding our biannual club auction on November 6th at the Marshfield Clinic-Wausau Center.  The auction starts at 7pm but if you are selling items, please be there by 6;30 to get things set up and give everyone else a chance to look over your items before the auction starts.  This auction will be in place of our business meeting and program.

 

Wausau Christmas Parade

The WVRA will again be participating in the Wausau Christmas Parade.  The parade will be Friday November 30th starting at Marathon Park.  More details to follow as they become available.  If you would like to help or if you have questions, please contact Kim Baumann KC9LFH.

 

Mosinee Christmas Parade
