Field Day 2001 has now come
and gone, held June 23 & 24 the event proved to be another successful WVRA
event. Kim Kunze - N9SDL compiled some stats on the Field Day activities and
reports 792 regular points and 700 bonus points. The six extra point items are
marked plus one that isn't on the list is the APRS
demo for which we get 100 points also, which totals 1492. There were 20
participants and 5 transmitters in simultaneous operation. All transmitters
were operated off 100% emergency power (generator) and it is figured that there
were 396 contacts made. Here's how the contact broke down into bands:

The
event had a great turn out including visitors from as far a way as California.
Whether they came to work the bands, visit or just set

up
and tear down it was great to meet fellow Amateur's.
New
to field day this year was the operation of APRS. On the left is Mark
Rasmussen, N9MEA working
at the W9SM Field Day Station. Mike Wild, KB9DED is working with our Field Day
visitors from California Freddi KG6ECE and Lindsey Meyer KG6ELW demonstrating
his mobile APRS Station.

Kim
Kunze, N9SDL works HF digital station to left and Andy Wellmen KF4JQD works HF

KB9STB and Lindsey - KG6ELW and Freddie KG6ECE Meyer.

this year WVRA participated in helping out at the Special Olympic Winter Games.
Members of the club manned sections of the cross-country ski trail keeping an
eye on the well being of the skiers. Here members of WVRA are setting up the
communications center for the event that included APRStracking equipment. Mike
Matakovich (N9IAB) also provided Amateur Television of the start and finish
lines.

Mike
Matakovich (N9IAB) and his truck equipped as an Amateur Television mobile
station. N9IAB followed The Dream Flights shuttle from school to school
broadcasting video and audio live so that students at all area school could
observe the actions of the shuttle crew. The broadcast can also be sent out
live over the local Public Access cable channel.
The pneumatic mast was formally used by a local television station on their live broadcast truck and was acquired by the Wisconsin Valley Radio Association.

One
of the many purposes of Field Day is to practice setting up your equipment in
case of a catastrophic disaster. Pictured below are pictures from the WVRA at
their Field Day 2000 location setting up a tower and utilizing the clubs
pneumatic mast
